When I know we are going to spend a weekend in Milan I often make a list of all the things I can do around the house while my kids quietly play a board game or color in their room.
Too bad for me that most of the time my children have activities all of their own planned. Which may or may not include the following:
a.) Scaling my Poliform wall system library.
b.) Racing their scooters down the hall and around our apartment at frightening speeds. (my son did a variation adding ski boots to the picture this weekend)
c.) Pulling everything out of their closet to dress up themselves, dolls, dogs, and of course Ben 10.
d.) And lets not forget their all time favorite – jumping on my Flou bed until one of them falls off.
The good thing is, sooner or later they get tired of these activities leading to what every other child does with his sibling when bored. They fight. This is when I remember that rainy day weekends in a big city can often be a parent’s nightmare. So before any evil mommy thoughts creep into my head I get kid 1 and kid 2 dressed and out the door as fast as I can. Fortunately, by the 198th time kid 2 asks me where we are going I have an idea. We head for The Civic Aquarium in Milan, a favorite among kids, especially mine. We spend an hour there and by the time we come out the down pour has stopped, allowing us to enjoy some of the autumn beauty that you can find even on a rainy day in Milano.
